"Thundarr el bárbaro" cuyo título original en inglés es "Thundarr the barbarian" fue una serie de dibujos animados producida en el año de 1980 en los Estados Unidos por la recién fundada compañía dos años antes Ruby-Spears Productions que pasó a formar parte de Filmways, serie que fue estrenada en el canal ABC Network el mismo año y reapareciendo en NBC hacia 1983. 
En 1994 llegó desde el espacio exterior hasta nuestro un universo, ¡un cometa! que cruzó violentamente entre la tierra y la luna produciendo una destrucción cósmica. Dos mil años después la tierra volvió a nacer, extrañas formas de vida surgieron, seres diabólicos y moustruos malignos, pero un hombre rompió sus cadenas y junto con sus compañeros Ookla el Mok, y la princesa Ariel, uniendo su valor y facultades a su fabulosa espada solar, emprendieron la lucha contra las fuerzas malignas.
